When Jim, our shelter manager, was asked to describe Caleb he responded: Caleb is 4 years old, weighs 65 pounds. He won't eat his food in the morning unless you give him a big hug first. Loves to kiss and a very loyal, very good companion dog. That is a quote and Im sure Jim honestly believes that is all you need to know about Caleb. Why he should be in a home. Can we expand a little? Feedings at HUA are an orchestrated event. Some dogs expect to be fed first, others dont care and just snarf their food down as fast as the can. Its all written down and the workers carefully follow all instructions. Caleb is a special case. It took Jim a few days to figure this out. Hed put the food out for Caleb and his suite-mates, and Caleb would just stare at him. Finally, Jim walked up to Caleb and asked him what was wrong. (Jim seems to ask the dogs lots of questions.) Caleb stood up on his back legs, leaned against Jim, and was given big hug. Its become their morning ritual. Caleb is that type of dog. Hes kind-hearted and sensitive, but he loves to have fun too! Take Caleb down to the play yard and you have one happy guy. Well, Caleb is happy wherever he is, but he really loves the yard and riding in the van. As Jim stated, Caleb was born in 2000. So hes now getting beyond that male young dog state! (We wont expand on the delayed maturation of male dogs.) As Jim stated, Caleb weighs 65 pounds and is a powerful dog. He is just the picture of health. We believe hes a Brittany / Labrador mix which accounts for his beautiful markings and coat. Its a soft as velvet! He gets along with other dogs and loves every person hes ever met. This dog has a heart as big as the Nebraska sky! Spend just an hour with this dog and your face will hurt from smiling and laughing. In many ways, Caleb represents all that is good in dogs. He loves life and will make you enjoy it more too. As long as you give him a hug each morning! Caleb has been altered and is current on all healthcare. He was rescued from a kill shelter in Kansas. Were glad to say hes all Husker now. He is a very special fellow.
